THE SHOPPING CONUNDRUM

How is it possible for me to love fashion so much but dislike the shopping process? Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop just as much as the next shopaholic, but the process of shopping is frustrating.

Maybe it’s my impatience. I don’t know. But I get overwhelmed by all of clothes staring at me and I have no idea where to begin. I look at the people who are shopping and they’re staring at the clothes meticulously and I’m wondering, “What? What are they looking for? How do they know what to look for?” I try to do the same but I just end up glazing over the clothes or go back to my old ways — quickly browsing through the clothes until something catches my eye.

So yeah, shopping for me can be frustrating and I’ll list my main reasons.

1. I’m a bargain hunter.

I recently graduated from University so I have a lot of loans to pay off. On top of that, I’m still job searching (hence this blog, a good way for me to pass the time between job hunting). So my budget for shopping is very limited. Not only that, I just love sales and deals. Thus, it makes shopping a little bit more difficult. A lot of my favourite stores are pricey (well, to my cheap standards), so I have to wait and wait until they have sales. Or I go to thrift stores and find some hidden gems, which is rare. Quite frustrating.

2. “Sorry, we don’t have your size.”

I’m a petite girl. Size xs-s, 0, and 5-6. It’s extremely difficult to find shoes my size. I don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to try on shoes, only to find out they don’t have my size (5). And I really liked those shoes. Sometimes I can fit in size 6 and it fits pretty well but it’s once in a blue moon. If I really love the shoes but they’re a little bit big, then I’ll compensate by wearing thick socks.

3. My expectations don’t live up to reality.

When I go out to shop and actually plan on buying something, I usually have a list of specific clothing articles I want to buy (for ex., black skinnies, military blazers, or flowy shirts). But once I start looking, most of the items in the store don’t live up to my expectations. I always somehow find something I don’t like about the item of clothing, and therefore don’t end up buying anything. I guess you can say I’m very picky.

Those are my reasons. Pretty legit, I’d say. Or maybe they’re just excuses. I don’t know. It’s 2AM and I’m pooped.
